City planner Bevilacqua fired in Lompoc

Nicholas D. Bevilacqua, 32, community development director, was terminated by City Administrator Gene Wahlers after less coordination with the staff. Bevilacqua introduced the community goals program and started the Art Alley public art displays with the Lompoc Valley Art Association. He came from Mankato, Minnesota.

Carpinteria Homes Saved From Inferno

Firefighters halted a giant brush fire near Carpinteria with backburns as the blaze neared outlying homes, while the main front burned along a four mile span. The fire has scorched 9 000 acres and caused power outages affecting 200 000 people with seven homes destroyed and four firefighter deaths reported.

Six U S soldiers refuse night patrol at Pace base on Cambodian border
