Court influence felt through rejection
The Supreme Court on its first post recess day issued about 900 actions including refusals to review lower court rulings. It denied Georgia’s bid to sue Nixon over education and pollution funds and rejected several cases on obscenity standards, race in schools, Hoffa appeal, blockbusting, and gender pay in ads. It also agreed to rule on a military law provision involving two servicemen prosecuted for protesting the Vietnam War.

Free ride extended licenses for 500000 Californians
California motorists with clean records will receive a one year extension on their driver's licenses next year. About 500000 drivers whose licenses would have expired in 1974 will be notified by mail that their licenses are extended until their 1975 birthdays. The extensions address DMV manpower shortages and were prompted by a 1965 law shortening license terms.
