Lompoc Planning Commission set an Oct 24 public hearing on revamping the zoning map. Proposals include deleting R-4 A-1 and oil combining zones, rezoning parks to Open Space and R-4 to R-3, and creating a public facilities district PF. The commission discussed including PF and debated its scope with Al Autry before approval.
A car rammed a Central Avenue and A Street power pole last night causing momentary TV image hesitation and dimming street lights as utilities report a brief power break. Police seek the driver who fled the scene at the northwest corner of the intersection around 9:20 p.m.
The Senate rejects a cloture bid 45 to 37 keeping antibusing debate alive with a second vote planned for Wednesday and possibly a third Thursday. Backers seek to end long distance busing as House approved, while Nixon seeks a separate $250 billion cap on federal spending. Northern liberals decry the measure as a danger to integration gains.

United Press International reports a Louis Harris poll of 1,585 voters taken Oct 3 5 shows Nixon leading McGovern 60 to 33 percent, a 27 point gap, near the campaign peak. The study coincides with McGovern's prime time address on ending the Vietnam War and Kissinger Paris talks.
