The Senate rejected an amendment to ban U S armed forces from protecting 200 American technicians in the Sinai amid the Israeli Egyptian disengagement. By 75 to 15 the vote allowed civilian volunteers to monitor the ceasefire with potential withdrawal by President or Congress if safety or mission ends. The House had already approved the plan 341 to 69, with a cost estimate of 20 million dollars this year.
The Lompoc Inter national Chemical Workers Union warns that asbestosis and industrial bronchitis threaten JM workers, amid a 21 year x ray follow up on pneumoconiosis. Union skepticism centers on who supplied the x rays and lack of union involvement in the study.
Japanese Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako visited Disneyland in Los Angeles and San Diego as part of a West Coast tour. He interacted with Mickey Mouse and other characters while reporters and photographers documented the encounter. the visit included a future stop at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography for scientific talks.
The 1975 Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to Andrei Sakharov, the Soviet physicist and anti nuclear testing advocate. He helped develop the hydrogen bomb but became a leading dissenter and Amnesty International founder in Moscow. The prize carries 122 dollars.
