Solvang wax artist Maxine Parsons gains local fame
In Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley a new miniaturist, Maxine Parsons, anchors Gayla Giles Gifts and Wax Gallery in Denmarket Square. Parsons, a former pianist from the Black Hills, crafts two inch to foot high wax figures and period rooms set around 1900, with handmade furnishings and authentic costumes, and plans more gallery pieces at her Oak Street studio.

The Santa Ynez Valley Arts Assn invites members and guests to buy preview subscriptions for the 1976 77 Performing Arts Center season at Allan Hancock College Santa Maria with all proceeds to the Solvang Festival Theater Health Care Services. The six plays run Nov 2 to May 19 and are 12 per season ticket.

Solvang Elementary School Band classes seek new or used instruments donated by the community. PTO president Pat Hausner invites residents to call 688-3889 or leave a name at the school 688-4810. Donated instruments will be repaired, owned by the PTO, and kept available for students in need. County supervisors were invited to the Santa Ynez Band of Mission Indians housewarming on October 16 to celebrate a new campground and community building on the reservation near Santa Ynez. The campground aims to generate revenue as it serves tourists. Board chair Frank J Frost expects many attendees, with Rosa Pace coordinating the invitation.

Solvang retailers favor cleanup plan with cautious funding tone
At a Solvang Retail Merchants breakfast the poll showed broad support for curb and gutter maintenance and downtown cleanup by the Solvang Municipal Improvement District. A $2.50 monthly or $25 yearly business levy was debated. funds would finance extra trash receptacles and improved Danish style artwork for public containers.
