Stengel’s baffling legacy and $40 million estate
Casey Stengel died September 29 leaving an estate worth about $40 million. Two wills exist though only the 1932 document names a living person, his wife Edna, who is mentally incompetent in her 80s. The 1971 will is unsigned and its beneficiaries are alive but unconfirmed. Courts must decide who inherits shares in banks stocks oil wells and real estate and who receives cash.
