California lawmakers win ten percent pay raise in 1976
Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr signed bills boosting legislators salaries from 21 120 to 23 231 annually starting Dec 6 1976. The pay raise accompanies a veto of a milk price control bill and the repeal of a holiday for election day for state and local government employees. Brown also signed and vetoed various measures including prohibiting mandatory blood donor payments and preserving voter roll purges, while others ease environmental filing and labor dispute rules.
