Oil giants settle for coast damage from 1969 blowout
Four major oil companies agreed to pay 4.5 million dollars to more than 1,500 beachfront property owners in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties for damages from the January 29 1969 offshore blowout at a Union Oil platform. The settlement requires federal court approval and awaits Judge Ray McNichols's signoff. Gulf Mobil Texaco joined Union Oil in the accord.
