UPI reports the Labor Department shows October CPI rising 0.7 percent led by higher prices for new cars fuel oil dairy products coffee clothing and mortgage rates. The index totals 164.6 with annual inflation at 8.4 percent and goods costing 164.60 for 100 in 1967. Real spendable income unchanged due to higher earnings and hours worked.
Santa Barbara County may vote in November 1976 on splitting the county into two parts. Fifth District Supervisor Harrell Fletcher outlined the plan at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast, detailing feasibility, boundaries, petition requirements, and a governor appointed commission to decide assets, fiscal impact, and governance.
