Fraternity Kidnapping Tale Spurs Late Night Pajama Walk

An 18 year old UCLA pledge wearing only pajamas explains to Lompoc police patrolman Robert Hebert that his fraternity staged a mock kidnapping. He says members of the rival fraternity bound him blindfolded and drove him toward Ensenada as a prank. He was abandoned near College Avenue and A Street after being released in a vacant lot. His father later retrieved him.

Nixon welfare bill killed in committee

The Senate Finance Committee voted 10 to 6 to kill President Nixon’s welfare reform proposal in a test vote. A limited one year trial of the plan and five alternative approaches were endorsed by a 10 to 3 vote. The outcome blocks the administration’s landmark plan to guarantee $1600 yearly to every poor family.

Bomb attacks target Americans in Lisbon Buenos Aires and London

United Press International reports terrorist bombings struck American sites in Lisbon including the U S Information Service Library wounding four others. A bomber died in an explosion near a police school. In Buenos Aires three attacks harmed Americans with one seriously wounded. Bombs also targeted homes of U S official Joseph Dodson and Du Pont consultant Charles Lingerfelt. a third device at Col George Jacobi’s doorstep failed to detonate.
