Southern University students accuse police of a systematic plot to assassinate the protest leader and say President Leon Netterville set students up for mass slaughter after a campus clash that left two Black youths dead. State police deny firing weapons. tear gas was used as officials reclaimed the administration building.
In a crowded bail review, Judge Terrill F. Cox refused to lower bail for 10 of 12 narcotics suspects including Aurelio Chavoya, who faced heroin sale charges. One audience member was jailed for contempt after shouting “that’s stupid” during the proceedings.
PATCO president John Leyden said the 16 000 controllers would endorse any ALPA strike in protest of hijacking handling. He criticized FBI actions in the Orlando hijack and urged cooperation with pilots while noting controllers cannot strike as federal employees. Anthony B. Whitefield also known as Tony Parker 35 of 507 B North M St jailed in Lompoc on charges of firing a .22 caliber rifle during a dispute with a Grover City man Roosevelt Campbell. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a dangerous weapon. Bail set at 2125. Campbell uninjured.

Hart’s challenge follows a vote counted by electronic devices, while San Luis Obispo officials cite error-proof machine tallies.
Former Maryland Senator Daniel B Brewster was found guilty by a federal jury on three counts of receiving an unlawful gratuity totaling 14500 dollars from a Washington lobbyist in exchange for support on postorate legislation. He had been indicted on bribery charges.
