Disney suspends Lake Tahoe recreation resort plans
Walt Disney Productions has paused plans for a year round recreation resort near Independence Lake in California due to land exchange delays with the U.S. Forest Service. The project, a joint venture with Southern Pacific Land Co and Sierra Pacific Power Co, would cover about 19 500 acres and include skiing skating boating hiking and tennis. Disney has already spent about 1 million on environmental studies and master planning, but management will not invest further until a Forest Service decision.

Ransom Paid for Stanford Students Abducted in Africa
A ransom between 400000 and 500000 was paid for the four Stanford University students abducted by Marxist guerrillas in Africa. The money was raised by Carrie Hunter’s father Norman Hunter and financed by loans due December 31. The four victims were kidnapped May 19 from the Gombe Stream Reserve in Tanzania and released over the following weeks. The Daily named Carrie Jane Hunter Stephen Smith Barbara Smuts and Emilie Bergman as the four students.
