Hooky playing State lawmakers set longevity record

In Sacramento the 1971 legislature marked a record 313 calendar days in session as many lawmakers were absent. With 28 assembly members and nine senators missing, no major business was conducted and some excused members waived or kept daily allowances while hopes to adjourn by Thanksgiving lingered.

Senate Votes to Raise Personal Exemption in 1972 Tax Cut

The Senate approved raising the personal exemption to $800 for 1972 and future years by a 40 to 37 vote, beyond Nixon's request of $750. The measure would cut about $50 for a family of four with $12 000 taxable income and cost about $1.8 billion yearly. A House-Senate conference will decide final language. Separate plan would extend unemployment benefits. amendment costs and payroll tax effects noted. A public meeting on trees near Central Avenue and A Street adjourns for city county and state officials to discuss widening Central Avenue toward Highway 246 with a meeting at Lompoc City Hall.

City awards banquet to honor first 30 year pins
