Miss Lyons's 91st birthday ride in electric car debut
Miss Jeannette Lyons of Ballard, aged near 91, rode Solvang in Jim Brand's battery powered convertible for a pre birthday treat. Brand, a retired electrical engineer, converted a 1965 Sunbeam Alpine to run on six 36 volt batteries delivering about 50 miles per charge. The ride follows her helicopter flight last year and adds to a lifetime of exploring by plane, ship, camel, elephant, and even a rocking chair on a narrow gauge train. The celebration continues with a luncheon at Alisal Ranch and plans for future birthday wishes such as a submarine or hot air balloon ride.
