Poppy Fields in Lompoc Expand Under Beautify America Plan
More than 37 acres of California Golden Poppies are planted in the Lompoc Valley this year, up from 12 acres last year. Summers Brothers and Jim and John Beattie grow under Ferry-Morse Seed Company contract, aiming for six to seven tons of seed for distribution to other distributors including county road departments. The Seeds will be used for highway beautification programs started in Santa Clara County four years ago and expanding, with further acreage increases planned for next year.
