UPI reports USDA data show April beef prices higher for consumers while middlemen cut their share. The farm to retail spread shrank to 44 cents from March 51.3, and carcass-retail margin fell to 32.7 cents the lowest since August 1973, with beef costs still 1.8 percent below a year earlier.
