The Planning Commission approved a tract map for a 20 dwelling project by Hilley Construction Co in the southeast area served by Hawthorne Street and Clemens Way after reviewing access routes and density. They also greenlit a lot split near North Avenue and O Street and directed Al Autry to pursue annexation and state funds while deferring action on a sign ordinance change.

Two Lompoc Men Hurt In Motorcycle Collision
Clifford L. Gentry 27 and Robert Phebus 26, both residents on South E Street, suffered injuries in a head on motorcycle crash last night. Gentry had a fractured left hand and wrist while Phebus sustained a fractured pelvis and chin cuts. Both men were listed in satisfactory condition at Lompoc Hospital. The CHP reported the collision at 8 p.m. on a dirt trail north of Vandenberg Village, about 12 miles west of Lompoc Casmalia Road.

Harmer Leads Petition Drive Against Pornography
State Senator John Harmer organized a petition signing campaign in Santa Maria to place an ant pornography measure on the November ballot. He aims for 325,000 valid signatures statewide with 9,600 from the Lompoc Santa Maria area and a similar count from San Luis Obispo, to be turned in by early June. The measure grants local control over standards, lowers law enforcement costs, and lets individuals sue violators to curb obscenity, while not binding signers to support the measure. Also, the California Highway Commission approved $17,000 for Ocean Avenue improvements in Lompoc to lower the roadbed at E Street to fix drainage dips.
