Indian Guide Spring Camp-Out at Camp Ocean Pines

The YMCA Hape Paka Indian Guide Federation holds its annual Spring Camp-Out at Camp Ocean Pines Cambria on May 22 and 23. About 100 fathers and sons from Pennaska and Wa-She-Nu nations attend with activities including crafts, a Campfire, and a major induction ceremony.

Summer Music Camp Open for Santa Barbara Youth

Santa Barbara County invites boys and girls in grades 6 through 9 to enroll in the 11th Annual Summer Music Camp. Three one week sessions run June 13–19, June 20–26, and June 27–July 3 with a $40 per camper per session fee. Registration extended to June 1 due to brisk demand.

Fire season restrictions issued for Los Padres National Forest

Forest Supervisor William H. Hansen announced that fire season restrictions are in effect across the 2,000,000 acre Los Padres National Forest due to early high and extreme fire danger. Fire detection and suppression teams are active. smoking and campfires are restricted to designated areas with permits required for non-campground fires.

Younger in report on Isla Vista riot

Attorney General Evelle J. Younger released a 47 page report on an 11 month probe into Isla Vista riots. He says some officers may have violated the law but evidence is insufficient for prosecution. The report was sent to Santa Barbara County District Attorney for possible action while federal probes continue.
