The district offered six percent total fringe benefits, four percent direct salary, with the rest in benefits. The CEC pressed for eight percent salary increases and added steps to the schedule. Local doctors weigh protest as walkout spreads

U S Air Force Officers Slain in Tehran Ambush
Two American colonels, Col. Paul R. Shaffer and Lt. Col. Jack H. Turner, were killed in Tehran as three gunmen using three cars executed a coordinated ambush. Food price rise lifts consumer costs in April
UPI reports April CPI up 0.6 percent marking the fastest rise since January while overall living costs reach 10.2 percent higher than a year earlier. Beef eggs furniture and gas prices climbed, sugar fell nearly 16 percent, cereal and bakery declined, take home pay slipped 0.1 percent and is 4.1 percent below a year ago.
