Goleta Faces Water Limits Despite Near Capacity Dam
Goleta Valley cannot receive more water beyond the current safe yield of 27 800 acre feet from the Cachuma Project even as Bradbury Dam nears its 205 000 acre foot capacity. Bureau officials told Robert Watson Goleta’s allotment cannot rise unless districts agree to cut current shares to 25 111 acre feet in drought years. Goleta now buys Cachuma water from Santa Barbara at 35 dollars per acre foot to meet demand, risking further shortages if Santa Barbara increases its own use.
