Board seeks role in choosing CPO successor

Two county supervisors will participate with the County Juvenile Justice Commission on Friday as an acting chief probation officer may be named to replace retiring Clifford Romer. If the judges proposal fails, the board may place the selection process on the November ballot. Details unfold amid conflict between the board, judges and commission over control of the 167‑person department and the pending dismissal of Assistant PRO Daryl Bartsch. The Grand Jury criticizes operations but the court and commission insist the court remains in control. Frost and Fletcher will sit with the commission and judges during the Romer successor process.
