State water project ends with dam dedication near Riverside
The 128 foot high dam southeast of Riverside was dedicated by Gov. Reagan and state officials marking the end of the 603 mile California Water Project. The project aims to deliver fresh water to 2.6 million more people by 1990, though it faced worker deaths and regional tensions since its inception 30 years ago. State engineer Sam Dulberg and Water Resources Director William Gianelli praised the feat and its timing despite prior financial crises.
