Scientist predicts plant protein boosts via chemical sprays
California scientist Dr. James A. Bassham told NAS scientists that plants could be directed to produce more protein by chemical sprays. He cited enzymes controlled by ions, noting algae and spinach leaves have been shown to shift from carbohydrate to protein production with ammonium ion dosing. He warned human digestion limits leaves but suggested leaves could be a protein source if industrially extracted.
