Alessios labeled special offenders in 1971 prison

Warden testifies that John and Angelo Alessio were classified as special offenders at Lompoc federal prison in 1971 meaning they could not be released. The disclosure comes during the bribery trial of Dominic Alessio who allegedly offered bribes for prison favors.

Rio Blanco nuclear test vents three blasts underground in Colorado

Three 30 kiloton nuclear devices were detonated underground in western Colorado to release natural gas. The explosions vaporized sandstone to free gas, shook nearby ranches, and prompted evacuations in Rifle and surrounding towns. CER Geonuclear and AEC officials described the test as ready and functioning with a final wire checks.

Hobby and Art Show Opens in Lompoc City Hall

Senior citizens present the third annual Hobby and Art Show at Lompoc City Hall open Friday from 1 to 8 pm and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. Entries accepted until 10 am Friday. Segretti pleads innocent to federal election charges

Los Angeles attorney Donald H. Segretti described by the FBI as a Republican campaign worker financed by Nixon’s attorney pleaded innocent to two counts of violating federal election laws. He and Tampa accountant George Hearing were indicted in Orlando on distributing a bogus campaign letter accusing Senators Humphrey and Jackson of sexual misconduct.

Graveside services for infant Robert Hunter Jr announced

Obituary notice lists graveside rites at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery for infant Robert Hunter Jr son of Mr and Mrs Robert Hunter of 176 Willow Street Base with burial at the cemetery directed by McPeeks Family Mortuary. Chaplain Nelson officiated. The infant died at Vandenberg AFB Hospital. Funeral services for Lois Bessie Howell 66 are set for tomorrow at 2 pm at McPeek Family Chapel. She died Tuesday at Lompoc District Hospital and will be interred at Cemetery with Rev Eugene Ashlock officiating. Born in 1907 in Oklahoma she lived in Lompoc 24 years. Survived by three sons Bob Lewis Kenneth and another son from Arkansas four daughters Laverne Crawford Velma Steinke Sue Flores Edna Hardcastle two brothers Sim and Shell Barnes Oklahoma two sisters Ollie Thomas Jettie Johnson Oklahoma, 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
