City to exit jail operations with county plans discussed
Lompoc officials plan to end the city jail contract with the County Sheriff’s Department by June 30. City Administrator Gene Wahlers proposes options including county takeover of the jail or housing city prisoners at Santa Maria substation. An extension to July 31 would require cost recovery above $1,500 monthly. Further talks with the sheriff would pursue county operation or substation housing.
