Farm Bureau seeks apology from Slater for remarks
The Santa Ynez Valley Farm Center calls for an apology from Supervisor James Slater after he claimed a County Grand Jury report criticizing CEQ was influenced by jurors with conflicts of interest. Officials from Santa Barbara County and Denmark plus Solvang leaders will unveil a 350 pound bronze Hans Christian Andersen bust in Solvang Park Friday at 1 p.m. The ceremony, a gift from the Rebild National Park Society, will feature Erik Emberg of Aalborg as master of ceremonies and includes flag presentations and both national anthems.

Bilingual Sample Ballots Commence Mailing for Primary
The County Election Office began mailing about 130000 bilingual sample ballots for the June 8 Primary. Election Chief Bob Kirkpatrick said mailings will take about a week and target voters on the 54 day cutoff list. Those registering after May 9 will receive ballots later. total registrations expected around 140000.

Law agencies host benefit barbecue for La Fitte family
More than 200 Santa Barbara and Ventura County law enforcement representatives and spouses gathered at the Veterans Memorial Building for a Tuesday night benefit barbecue in honor of the Robert La Fitte family of Goleta. The fire left the La Fittes with serious burns to two children and the loss of all possessions. the son has returned home with tutoring, while the daughter is at a Los Angeles burn center for care. A CHP officer, John Skeets, received a retirement plaque and budget as he ends medical service. Local organizers included Mr and Mrs La Fitte, Sgt Jack Delagrave, and CHP officer Al Rowley with music closing the event.
