Board approves sale of beer at Lake Cachuma

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a county code amendment allowing beer sales at Cachuma Lake by the park concessionaire. The move follows concerns about driving miles for drinks and potential incidents affecting insurance. State parks already permit beer at Refugio and Gaviota, and concessionaires must obtain a State license.

The 91st Strategic Missile Wing at Minot AFB ND closed the gap on leader Grand Forks with 93.3 percent across exercises including 490 of 500 on a missile start up. Wyomings 90th Wing at F E Warren AFB posted 93.1 percent after two crews scored 283 and 289 of 300. Titan II leader McConnell 381st Wing rose to 91.2 percent, while 308th Little Rock posted 90.7 percent alongside others around 90.7 percent. Cumulative standings name 321 Wing as Blanchard and Minuteman winner, with multiple Best… trophies assigned to 381 and 321 Wings.

Howard W. Lovejoy 50 dies. services set in Lompoc

Howard William Lovejoy, 50, of Lompoc dies Sunday at Vandenberg AFB Hospital. Masonic services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at McPeek Family Mortuary Chapel with Lompoc Lodge 262 F and A M officiating. Born 1923 in Massachusetts, he was a director of photography for 12 years and resided in Lompoc 14 years. He belonged to Anacostia Lodge 21 F and A M Washington D C and several local groups. Survived by widow Mary, son Terrence, daughter Barbara, brother Ralph in Massachusetts, sister Jeanette Buckler. Contributions to American Cancer Society. Visitation at McPeek Funeral Home until 8 p.m. tonight.

Theft of drugs from county mental health center looms hazard

A theft at the Mental Health Center on 136 North G St. involving more than $1 000 in drugs alarms officials. Bill Clark reports looters took pills from about 30 medications and many hypodermic needles while leaving other property untouched.

Weekend inspections planned by Lompoc building dept

The City of Lompoc Building Department will start Saturday inspections for new buildings to accommodate weekend construction. Community Development Director Al Autry says the program offers ongoing service to commercial and home builders and requires Saturday appointments scheduled by Friday 5 p.m. for those doing the work.
