Neutron stars confirmed as pulsar powerhouses in space

Scientists at a National Academy of Sciences symposium confirm neutron stars exist and power pulsars. These ultra dense bodies, about 120 miles wide with sun mass, generate enormous magnetic fields and may drive cosmic rays, linking them to Crab Nebula’s pulsar emissions.

Federal Grand Jury Holds Secret Panthers Session No Action

A UPI report notes a federal grand jury in San Francisco met in secret all day on Black Panther activity but adjourned without action. Seven witnesses testified, six Panthers, and three were ordered back May 14 for a new grand jury. Huey P Newton faces bail hearing as he appeals a state murder conviction. Federal authorities were speculated to consider indicting Panthers for advocating violent overthrow.

Visitadores Ride Opens With Ceremony At Santa Ynez Mission

The 39th Rancheros Visitadores begins Saturday with an opening at 3 p.m. at the Santa Ynez Mission in Solvang. Elmer Awl leads the committee, joined by El Presidente John V. Newman and John J. Mitchell, with blessing by mission padres and RV Orchestra entertainment. The riders then return to Jackson Camp near Solvang for new member initiations and preparations for the eight day trek through the Santa Ynez Valley.

Rezoning for cowboy steakhouse denied by county panel

The 8 to 4 vote by the County Planning Commission rejected Manuel J. Durbiano’s bid to reclassify a 7 acre parcel west of San Marcos Pass from agricultural to commercial for a steakhouse style eatery. Famous animals headline Lompoc festival parade awe

Wild animals from TV and film will perform at the 17th annual Lompoc Bean Flower Festival. Animal trainers Ted and Pat Derby will lead a parade on June 28 with stars including Enco tigers a black bear from Walt Disney Love Bug the Mercury Cougar and the only working timber wolf. The Derbys own Animal Kingdom in Buellton and plan a controlled demonstration at Ryon Park that afternoon.
