Santa Barbara approves highway work and bids in county budget

The 1.3 mile two lane highway segment from East Street west of Santa Ynez to west of Route 154 on Route 246 received approval as a 1970-71 Santa Barbara County project. Bids for the Santa Maria Public Health Center totaled 491160 from MacDonald Corp. of Santa Barbara, below engineers estimate of 515000. Rojas faces a March 26 preliminary hearing in Lompoc on dangerous drug charges. Ericson’s arraignment was postponed. The Lompoc Cabrillo Key Clubs push Muscular Dystrophy funds through March 29 to aid wheelchairs, research, and patient support.

UCSB disciplines thirty students after campus Isla Vista disruptions

Chancellor Vernon I. Cheadle reported to the Regents that thirty UCSB students faced disciplinary action for recent campus and Isla Vista disturbances. Eleven were suspended or denied readmission after hearings. 18 were denied campus access up to 14 days. five received interim suspensions. some were charged with vandalism and others denied readmission or had registrations lapse. One jailed student remains under review, and one former student faced denial of readmission.

Rubenstein named new range safety officer at Kennedy

Lou Rubinstein was appointed Safety Engineering Officer at Kennedy Space Center Western Test Range Operations Division by Director John R. Atkins. He joined NASA in February after careers at General Electric Philadelphia and Vandenberg Air Force Base, with prior service in the U S Air Force and roles at United Technology Center and American Machine Foundry Field Op Allan Hancock College. Allan Hancock College journalism students earned six trophies at a statewide competition in Fresno among 450 students from 50 colleges.
