States Should Assume Most Education Cost
The President's Commission on School Finance urges states to bear the bulk of public education costs currently funded by local governments to reduce disparities between wealthy and poor districts. It favors statewide property tax collection or replacing it with another tax and calls for higher federal education funding via state reform incentives, while leaving the final decision on property taxes to states.
