NASA officials cite Vandenberg as leading candidate for Western Space Shuttle landing and refit duties with Edwards AFB as a backup. Lefkowitz Wins Lompoc City Council Seat in 3-Year Term
Elinor Lefkowitz, 58, widow of Sol Lefkowitz, edged Joe Valencia by 134 votes to assume the remaining three years of her late husband's council term. She won 1,370 votes (37 percent) to Valencia's 1,236. Tom Green followed with 638 votes. Lefkowitz vows open public communication and continued support for the economic development agency while aiming for a city hall and fire station dream. Martin Valencia and Green cited sympathy votes and spending as factors in the result. Lefkowitz will be sworn in March 11 with a $150 monthly pay and aims to limit public comment to five minutes per speaker.

Simon urges tax rebates favoring high income groups
