Meteorite found by Santa Ynez teacher excites rockhounds
Marjorie Hasley, head of the Santa Ynez Elementary science department and Santa Ynez Valley Rock Club member, found a 10 pound rock on a beach field trip. A meteorite sample has been sent to the state lab in San Francisco for analysis. The meteorite, described as flying saucer shaped with metallic crystals, likely landed at low tide and may have more fragments buried under sand. The group plans to display findings at the Santa Ynez Valley Rock Club meeting at 7 30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 3 of the Santa Ynez school and invites interested attendees.
