Sheriff's budget may show a year end surplus in 1971 72

Forecasts indicate the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department could end the 1971 72 budget year with a small surplus though overtime for deputies tied to spring anti peace protests exceeded the 80 000 county wide overtime figure. New admin officer Peter Potter is tightening controls and some surplus funds come from unfilled positions. Isla Vista foot patrol funding is under state review. A separate trio in Santa Barbara faces bail after grand jury indictments for alleged arson insurance fraud tied to a 1968 fire.
