No fault car insurance bill faces crucial Senate hearing
California's last surviving major no fault bill the Fenton Long Act heads to a Senate hearing. The compromise sets a modified no fault system from 1974 through 1979 with $5000 per person per accident and a $1000 medical threshold for extra damages. Reagan allies say it comes closest to his aims while administration stance remains undecided. Separately the Senate Finance Committee killed two rival bills backed by Song and Moscone amid consumer group opposition and industry concerns.
