One of nine Australian babies dies, boy remains critical
The eighth of nine siblings born to Mrs. Geraldine Brodrick in Sydney died two days after birth leaving a six inch long, 12 ounce surviving boy in critical condition. A prior sister died from lung complications and five other infants died within two days of birth.

Senate thaw looms over Reagan budget in California
In Sacramento the Senate shows signs of breaking the budget deadlock after Assembly approval of a $7.013 billion stand out spending plan. Senate Republicans plan to back the bill to reach a two house conference, with Democrat support mixed and concerns over size noted. The Assembly passed a budget $250 million above Reagan’s request, amid a colorful vote and predictions of substantial line item vetoes.

Moon rock to be on display at Lompoc Flower Festival
A Sea of Tranquility lunar rock, 117 grams from Apollo 11, will be shown in the NASA trailer at Ryan Park during June 26 and 27. Free admission. Astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin collected the sample in July 1969, part of about 48.5 pounds of lunar material. The rock, first examined by the Lunar Receiving Laboratory, is an igneous coarse rock with ~35 percent plagioclase, 45 percent pyroxene, and 20 percent olivine, dating about 3.9 billion years.
