Salmon fishing ban protest organized on Pacific Northwest coast
About 100 Oregon boats will join fishermen from Oregon Washington and California to protest a two week fishing ban off Tillamook Head to the Canadian border. Protesters expect arrests and have bail money and lawyers ready. The ban aims to protect the chinook run after a federal court ruled Indians get half the salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River. The move is described as political, not conservation, by Bob Hudson of the Oregon All-Coast Fishermen’s Marketing Association.
