Cory attacks utilities tax advantages in California
State Controller Kenneth Cory argues giant public utilities escape local property taxes at the expense of individual taxpayers. He cites a 9.3 percent rise in utility property values vs 23.7 percent for non utilities and urges the Board of Equalization to revise assessment factors to reflect current market values. Separately a San Diego County wildfire near Forest left 40 percent contained with gusty 35 mph winds and 90 degree heat as investigators point to possible illegal alien campfires.

Alaska oil faces $7 per barrel price outlook
Alaska North Slope oil is expected to fetch about seven dollars a barrel at wellhead due to transport costs and foreign competition. The trans Alaska pipeline will ship 600000 barrels daily from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez next summer, potentially doubling by year end, with a four and a half dollar tariff and tanker costs 50 cents to one dollar per barrel. The price must beat foreign imports at roughly thirteen dollars a barrel after transport costs, as FEA regulation shapes final delivered prices at West Coast ports.
