Tornadoes Kill Eight in Forrest City Ark and Hit Nearby Areas
Thunderstorms across the mid nation unleashed tornadoes and hail. A tornado struck a Forrest City shopping center killing eight and leaving about 2,500 homeless. Other twisters occurred near Heber Springs Ark and Harrisonville Mo with no injuries reported. Golf ball sized hail hit Sunray Tex as 60 mph winds swept northern Arkansas and storms rolled toward the Great Lakes. Rain totals surpassed two inches across Arkansas Oklahoma Kansas Missouri and Illinois with a flash flood watch in Arkansas.

High School Drug Use Survey Shows Wide Usage
A Board of Education report released in Los Angeles finds more than half of senior high students and about a third of junior high students have used drugs in the past year. Marijuana led use, with hashish and various other substances following, including small percentages for heroin and methadone.

Senate and Assembly move toward floor votes on two differing budgets over 10 billion dollars for fiscal 1974-75. The Ways and Means Committee sent a 10.21 billion proposal to the Assembly with 18 to 0, while the Senate Finance Committee approved a 10.17 billion budget.
