Vandenberg AFB Tours Set for June on Central Coast

Residents of the Central Coast can join two Vandenberg AFB tours on June 11 and June 25. Register for June 11 at the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce and for June 25 at the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce. Further tour details and entry instructions will be given upon registration.

A Thai farm official Wuthichai Muangsombut, 29, visited Lompoc Valley under an IFYE program. He toured Badger seed projects, a Buellton tomato ranch, and spent a day with rancher Jim Beattie while staying with the Warren Fletcher family at 619 E Willow Ave.

UCSB student poll of 2,436 Santa Barbara residents shows 67 percent want oil operations out of the Channel and 22 percent allow them to stay. Citizens blame oil companies most, with 50 percent naming them as culprits, and 61 percent would pay higher taxes or prices for environmental cleanup.

William Hendry Vance obituary and funeral set in Lompoc

Funeral services for William Hendry Vance 62 will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ with ministers Virgil Leach and Garth Smith officiating. Interment at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. He was born in 1911 in Santa Barbara and died yesterday in Lompoc District Hospital. Survived by widow Muriel two daughters three sons four sisters two brothers thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Interment at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Funeral arrangements for Antonia Dimich 96 are pending at McPeek Family Mortuary. She died at her home last night 414 E Olive Ave.

Firefighters face pay debate over slowdown protest

County Board votes 3-1 to ask Fire Chief Risdon whether about 140 firefighters in the County should receive less than full pay for a slowdown. The move follows a 5 percent raise demand seen as insufficient after other workers got 10 percent. Mediation via State Conciliation Service starts Thursday.

AF officer aids blind ham operator with book

Captain Greg L. Underhill of Travis AFB helped Roy Phelps of Vacaville create a DX reference manual for blind hams. The 78 page volume covers bearings distances call signs and time differences for over 300 countries and was published by the Peninsula Braille Transcribers Guild. The project earned praise from Senators Tunney and Inouye and is being used worldwide.
