76 Sites Vetted for NASA Space Shuttle Launch Sites
G P Gaffney and NASA test team reported 76 sites in 21 states were evaluated for the shuttle program launch and recovery facilities. The findings were presented to about 500 Southern California civic leaders at the Orange Show grounds. A NASA board will review the report with a decision due in early November.

Japanese air disaster kills 162 on two planes
A 22 year old student pilot in an F86 collided with an All Nippon Airways Boeing 727 over Morioka Japan, killing 162 aboard the jetliner. The F86 pilot parachuted to safety. authorities said the other pilot faced possible charges. An American passenger listed was Donn M. Carpenter of Miami Florida.
