Fair auction sets weight sale records at Santa Barbara fair
A marathon auction lasting nine hours ended at 9 p.m. with two records at the Santa Barbara County Fair. Total sales reached $92,013, the highest ever for the 4H and FFA auction of market lambs swine and beef. A record 342 sheep sold at $1.13 per pound, with Terrill Day of Cabrillo High School selling the last sheep for $3.50 per pound as bidding peaked. Swine sold at 61 cents per pound and 112 head of beef averaged 49 cents per pound.

Santa Maria Couple Die in Car Crash
A Santa Maria couple, Kenneth Dale Dunham 39 and Shirley Ann Dunham 37, died when their car rear ended a heavy truck trailer rig on Highway 101 twenty miles north of Lompoc. Billy Wagner 39 the truck driver was uninjured. The accident occurred about 3 30 a m between Santa Maria Way and Clark Avenue. Sgt Michael Allan Ritts 24 of Vandernberg Air Force Base suffered multiple injuries after losing control of his small foreign car on Highway 246 near a construction area a mile east of Campbell Road. He was taken to the base hospital and his condition could not be determined.
