Former President Lyndon B. Johnson was admitted to Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio after chest pains and nausea. Doctors reported no heart attack at that time, noting the patient was comfortable and in good spirits at 10 p.m. There had been prior heart attacks in 1955 and last April during a Virginia visit.

The Senate rejected a 1.8 billion foreign military aid bill rather than accept a condition withdrawing U.S. forces from Indochina four months after enactment if POWs are released. Lompoc Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash At Rucker And McLaughlin
A 37 year old Lompoc man Raymond Allen Shannon died in a motorcycle crash at Rucker and McLaughlin Roads northeast of the city. He was pronounced dead at the scene around 2 a.m. by Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Hoffman. A witness said Shannon was unfamiliar with the road before failing to negotiate a 90 degree turn. Funeral services were pending at McPeek Mortuary and his wife Emma survives.

NASA Goddard reports ERTS systems functioning well after launch from Vandenberg. The first image shows a 155 mile square ocean view east of Maine on orbit 26. Scientists plan to study oil pollution and ocean oxygen production using the data. The Midwest area appeared on orbit 27, and a 16 minute pass over the West Coast occurred on orbit 28 between 11 06 and 11 22 this morning.

Five rescued as fishing boat sinks two miles off Pt Sal
A 40 foot fishing vessel Volpe sank two miles off Pt Sal after a leak, five people were rescued by Coast Guard helicopters from Vandenberg after a distress call.
