Santa Ynez district plan advances to form 512 acre service area

LAFCO backed formation of a 512 acre Santa Ynez Community Services District to address sewage disposal and health concerns in the valley. A five member board would govern if approved, with petitions and a public hearing planned after initial sanction. The move aims to preserve Santa Ynez identity separate from Solvang.

Senators Hope for Draft Talks as Vietnam Timetable Emerges

Detained teens linked to cloth theft at Lompoc shop

Two 16 year olds were detained after allegedly stealing a bolt of cloth from House of Fabrics in Lompoc Shopping Center. Merchandise valued at about 80 dollars. Suspects placed with juvenile authorities. A separate theft report notes a brass and copper fittings loss worth 50 to 60 dollars from Bill Story's Second Hand Store on 1001 W Laurel Ave, under police investigation. A benefit softball game at Thompson Park tonight at 8 supports the Lompoc Boys' Club, with pies for the price of a dollar offered by club president Joe Foldhazi. Allan Hancock College announces evening swim classes starting Monday with 10 am for beginner/intermediate and 11 am for advanced. $3 tuition. Pedestrian David Ostrowe, 18, of New York, suffered a broken leg after being hit by Daniel Gardner, 44, of Buellton on Highway 101 near Santa Rosa Road. Ostrowe transported to Santa Ynez Valley Hospital.

Girl's Arm Reattached After Airplane Propeller Injury

A 16 year old girl from Sherman Oaks had her left arm severed by a Cessna propeller at Van Nuys Airport. Surgeons at Orthopedic Hospital completed a six hour operation reattaching the limb below the shoulder with restored circulation.

Funeral services for Staff Sergeant Gary Lee Beadle 28 will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery San Diego. Beadle died at Vandenberg AFB on base in an apparent self inflicted death. Survived by wife Florence born September 25 1942 in Long Beach served in Air Force 10 years stationed at Vandenberg eight months. Ronald L Fick 54 died yesterday at Lompoc Hospital. Hannah leaves hospital board after long service

John Hannah a 13 year veteran of the Lompoc Hospital District Board resigns to become credit manager for the hospital with a starting salary about 8300 dollars per year. Kenneth Wicks notes Hannah retires from Seaside Oil Co distributorship and accepts the offer. The board accepts the resignation and will nominate to fill the unexpired term. The board also approves purchasing 331 S C St to pave way for Phase I expansion including coronary and intensive care units and extra parking for the valley’s long term medical needs.

Van Heflin Dies at 60 After Heart Attack

Hollywood mourns Van Heflin, Oscar winner for Johnny Eager, who died at 60 after a June heart attack while swimming. He starred in Airport and a long list of films, married Frances Neal in 1942, had three children, and divorced in 1967.
