Merger of health services eyed after director's resignation
The Board of Supervisors may merge Mental Health Services with County Health Care Services after Mental Health Director Charles Allen resigns effective Aug 19. Dr. Allen earns 47,292 and Health Care Services leader Lawrence Hart earns more, making them the county's highest paid heads. A merger could downgrade the mental health post, while Hart's administration has been praised for delinquent hospital bill collections and tax-rate reductions. The Grand Jury criticized Allen's personnel handling and administrative methods in its July 5 report.
