Babe Ruth squads return to action in playoff push

Lompoc Babe Ruth 14-15 year olds head to Wasco for a Northern California Southern Section tournament opening Sunday at 5 p.m. The winner advances to a best of three series Aug. 13 for a spot in the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional in Douglas Arizona. Lompoc 13-year-olds travel to Hollister for a three game district playoff after sweeping District Three in last week’s tournament. Coach Dennis Ray credited Owen Ethridge and Leroy Grossini for key contributions with Ethridge batting .692 and nine RBIs in four games while Grossini hit .500 with nine RBIs despite a back injury.

Little League District 50 Tournament Night Games

Scores from Monday and Tuesday show Santa Maria South 6 Nipomo 4 and Lompoc American 4 Santa Maria North 5. Tonight includes Lompoc National versus Village Hills at 5 p.m. Village Hills Diamond with Beach Cities on a bye. Tomorrow 5 p.m. Vandenberg versus Orcutt National at May Grisham School. Lompoc Babe Ruth team heads to Northern California on tour

Lompoc 14 15 year old Babe Ruth All Stars depart for Wasco to compete in the Northern California Southern Section baseball tournament after attending the funeral of Eddie Hall's father George Hall in San Jose. The team, coached by George Meyer, dedicated their weekend victories to Eddie and his dad as they advanced to the State Sectional tournament.

Thomas rips Cowboys brass amid race and honesty claims

Duane Thomas held a news conference accusing Dallas Cowboys officials of dishonesty and racism after a standout rookie season. Bando Saves Blue In 12th As A's Rally Past Indians
