Hijackings for ransom end in arrests or death, FAA chief says
FAA chief John H. Shaffer notes 16 hijackings for ransom this year all ended with pirates either arrested or killed or living abroad. Since the D B Cooper case in November, 18 attempts have failed, with 21 people involved and 7.7 million dollars paid in ransom, most recovered except two sums outstanding.

Bombardment of Quang Tri Intensifies With Planes and Ships
U S warplanes and Navy gunships join in the heaviest assault on Communist held Quang Tri since a June operation. About 60 B52 bombers 190 fighters and 10 ships hit around Quang Tri city as paratroopers push toward the Citadel intelligence notes a fresh North Vietnamese division advancing toward the capital. At least 194 North Vietnamese were killed around the city with 29 government troops dead and 84 wounded. Weather remains sunny with highs in the low 70s and inland highs in the 80s with morning coastal low clouds.

Thirteen Hurt in Weekend Traffic Series
A weekend of accidents left 13 people injured in several crashes around Lompoc and Santa Ynez Valley. Two teenage girls from Lompoc suffered minor injuries when their car overturned on Highway 246.
