Germans and Americans toast AEROS B launch at Vandenberg

German satellite AEROS B lifted off from South Vandenberg at 4 51 am in a four stage Scout rocket. The project is a NASA German cooperation carrying four German and one American experiments to study upper atmosphere chemistry ionosphere and solar radiation. The satellite weighs 280 pounds and targets a nearly polar orbit with apogee 560 miles and perigee 140 miles.

Runaway search ends in narcotics arrest on Westside

Deputies traced a runaway juvenile to a westside apartment where two adults and three juveniles were arrested on narcotics charges. Nearly two pounds of marijuana were confiscated. Adults named Vance Ray Hill, 22, and Terry Wayne McDonald, 19, both of 521 A.

Rieck home trio held after marijuana raid near Santos Road

Three juveniles and two adults were arrested in Lompoc and jailed in Santa Barbara County. Bail was set at 5500 dollars each for the two adults. The group was charged with possession for sale paraphernalia under the influence and contributing to delinquency of minors. Deputies seized 37 bags of marijuana and various smoking devices.

Colson Denies Clemency Talk With Nixon On Hunt

Charles W. Colson testified before the House Judiciary Committee that he never discussed clemency for Watergate figure E. Howard Hunt with anyone at the White House including President Nixon. Rep. Wiggins described Colson as saying no clemency offer was made, while St Clair argued the term operation referred to leak investigations, not a break in. Convicts surrender after five day siege at U S Courthouse

Frank Gorham and Robert Jones, two inmates who seized eight hostages, stripped and handcuffed each other before surrendering to Assistant Police Chief Maurice Cullinane. They were flown to a federal prison in Atlanta after the standoff ended and opposed being sent to a federal hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
