Postmaster General seeks 13 cent citizen rate for letters
Postmaster General Benjamin Bailor urged the Postal Service Board to set a 13 cent citizen rate for personal letters even if the business rate rises to 16 cents next spring. He noted potential $500 million annual savings from ending Saturday deliveries, though he offered no recommendation. The change would require action by the Postal Rate Commission, which has up to 10 months for recommendations. Bailor argued the citizen rate is a public interest issue and warned a 3 cent rise would burden low-volume users.
