Senior Citizens lunch and rap sessions at City Hall

Dr. Barry J. Coughlin will speak at the Senior Citizens potluck lunch and business meeting at the City Hall Auditorium Monday. Planning Commission to hold short session on General Plan amendments

The County Planning Commission will meet next Wednesday at 1 45 P M for a brief session focused on General Plan amendments in Goleta Valley. Items include the Santa Barbara Park Industrial Complex Ward Memorial Dr area housing plan and a Brandon Dr Cathedral Oaks Rd subdivision project, plus Lakeside Mobile Home Park landscaping led by TV star Fess Parker. Also on the agenda are Dervaille Academy gym recreation plans Baseline Ave Santa Ynez and Goleta building sites near Napes.

Migrant health program may survive after federal cut

County Health Department officials said the migrant worker health program could be funded this year despite an end to federal support on June 30. They propose rewriting other federal health funds for as much as 30000 to save the program for another year and seek board approval by February 15 with potential local funding of about 10000. The program has previously drawn 50000 to 60000 federal dollars and serves some 4000 migrants through the Santa Maria Valley each summer.

Younger Wives Expect Fewer Children Say Census Survey

Census Bureau survey finds younger wives ages 18 and 19 expect 3.3 children on average while older wives show higher expectations. The 2.7 replacement figure would be 18 percent above the needed level to sustain population.

UCSB Academic Senate backs Zeitlin visiting status request

In a special UCSB Academic Senate meeting, a 66 to 4 vote urged Chancellor Vernon Cheadle and UC President Charles Hitch to grant Maurice Zeitlin full privileges of a visiting research sociologist. Zeitlin, associate professor at Wisconsin, was invited last spring but the offer was withdrawn amid allegations of unprofessional conduct. Zeitlin sued the chancellor and UC Regents. the case remains in court. A second resolution lamented 130 colleagues who boycotted and did not oppose the rational discussion.

Gordon deMarrais a vocational education expert files nominating papers to challenge Edmund Burke for Area 4 on the Allan Hancock College District board of trustees. Burke, an industrial engineer for Johns Manville, seeks reelection after a second four year term. Burke has filed nominating papers as well.

County panel weighs desalting plant to ease water taxes

County Water Advisory Committee discussed a proposed Federal state desalting facility in Diablo Canyon. If built, subsidized operation could provide high quality supplemental water at lower costs as State Project Water costs rise. Edmonston urged updated county needs data for 1978 operation planning.
