Questions on jury criticism of county auditor

Grand Jury report criticizes the county auditor’s office for not using modern accounting methods. Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson supports the report while Auditor Controller A. T. Eaves Jr. defends his five-term tenure and adherence to state statute. The Board of Supervisors will review the findings as related personnel and internal control recommendations are discussed.

Obituary Hildegard Kitts

Hildegard Kitts 34 died yesterday in her home in an apparent self inflicted death. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 10 a m at McPeek Family Chapel with further services at First Baptist Church Seminole Texas and burial in Seminole. She was born November 5 1936 in Karlsrung Germany and lived in Lompoc the past five years. Survived by husband Floyd and children Donna Dianne Michael Rea Belinda Renee all at home, father Robert Gerbert of Germany, and brothers Horst of Canada and Helmut of Germany.

Theft reports and juvenile arrest in local area

The Daily Record lists multiple thefts including a 12 volt battery valued at 40 dollars stolen from Charles Lepper’s car on N. T Street. Richard Rasmussen reports 700 dollars of stereo gear taken from his vehicle on I Street. David Acker reports a stereo deck and tapes stolen from his car on West College Avenue. Three runaway juvenile boys from Burbank were taken into custody at 7 25.

Planners tour Carpinteria Valley area and spar over road plans

County Planning Commission members toured Carpinteria Valley to see the flower industry area north of U S 101 and then returned to a heated hearing over general plan circulation. A citizens committee led by George Bliss Jr. was asked to report by Feb 17 on highway designations. Also noted were juvenile theft arrests near Las Cruces and a guilty plea by James Hayes for resisting arrest at the Village Inn with sentencing set for next Monday.

Hearing set on market zoning for Buellton Parkway area

The County Planning Commission scheduled a public hearing for February 24 to consider rezoning the Buellton Parkway area to commercial use. William Fitzgerald requested a determination that a food market is permitted in highway commercial, but planners noted it is not. the hearing could rezone his property. The Parkway, renamed Avenue of Flags, is now a central business street after U.S. 101 bypassed the community.

Tanglewood Residents Oppose Industry in Subdivision

A house-to-house survey for the Santa Maria area shows Tanglewood homeowners oppose California Fine Wire Co entering an unused building on land zoned for shopping center use by about three to one. The County Planning Commission had said industrial use would not violate the general plan, while the Fannin Corp and some owners support the project.

Burnett retires as J M chief at year end

Johns-Manville announces Clinton B. Burnett will resign as Chairman of the Board effective December 31 1970. Burnett age 62 joined the firm in 1931 served as President and CEO from 1960 to December 1 1970 when he became Chairman. Under his leadership sales rose from 365 million to beyond 500 million dollars.
